The Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre in Picton Street, Parow, will host its 20th annual Concerto Festival on Sunday August 26, at 6pm.
Thirteen young soloists will have the opportunity to perform with the Hugo Lambrechts Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Liam Burden.
This year the music centre has launched a new performance category which grants an aspiring conductor the opportunity to conduct an orchestral work with the orchestra. The successful candidate is Damian Philander who will be conducting the orchestra in a performance of The Light Cavalry Overture by Franz von Suppé.
The winner of the 2017 SAMRO Hubert van der Spuy Music Competition, pianist Mike Wang, will perform, while the winner of the 2017 National Youth Music Competition, violinist Gilah Kellner, will solo with the orchestra and several other young musicians.
The programme for the Concerto Festival includes compositions by Telemann, Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Scriabin and Allan Stephenson from Cape Town. Tickets cost R130 or R100 for concessions. Contact the centre on email@example.com or 021 939 9105 to book.
